After the success of the Junior side of pool, and a special mention to Les for putting the time and effort into it, the committee have been discussing recently an Aberdeen Ladies re launch which has kind of dropped off the scene the last couple of years. I have suggested that entry fee stays the same and we run it through out the season, first of all as group phase one or two groups with a finals day round robin from qualifiers from groups. I am not starting off with expecting huge numbers but even 6 going into finals day would be a start and improvement and can possibly build from there. Its worth a shot I think and its just a case of the ladies ticking that box on competition entries. You will get alot of pool for your cash. Group format would be decided on how many entrants and then we will set a finals day once we know when group stage would end. Players can negotiate between themselves where they want to play their group matches own venue or Rileys/Shooters with the finals day going to one of the sponsors. Basically, looking for suggestions and ideas to try and get this moving again. So feel free to comment. No taking the piss comments or Chris will remove them. Serious only please. Thanks. Allan. ----------------- Charity Fundraiser, Cystic Fibrosis Trust, Marie Curie Cancer Care, SSPCA Summer League Tournament Organiser [ This message was edited by: Al on 2012-07-07 18:07 ]

As no responses over last few days, will go with the plan in 1st post. Still time though between now and AGM to get thoughts and suggestions in ladies.

I suggest that next season the Committee takes on someone to organise ladies pool similar to what Les has done with the juniors this year. ----------------- CML Web Design LtdYour complete web solution!

I would say so - do think the committee needs a ladies representative. Emma, Jaye or Pauline Hay would surely be interested?

Think it would be a great opportunity to be creative and put in place some new events for the ladies with the support from the rest of the committee. Are you offering then Shane?!

I agree something needs to be done to get more ladies into pool. Maybe something like a night a week/fortnight like a 'Ladies night' at Rileys/Shooters time about? Meet up, have a drink and play some pool. And Im not wanting to be on a committee next year, I will have enough with work/pool/studying/learning to drive!

Ladies,
Committee have obviously been looking at ways in which to re-launch the ladies game in Aberdeen.
We would very much like to hear your ideas on what you would like to see in place next year?
There are one or two options being floated about - but need some female input.
Allan can outline his ideas - but my suggestion is a ladies-only XSP division, where the winner would play a play-off against someone from the proposed "premier 2" for promotion.
At the moment there is nowhere near the amount of ladies in the league to make this a viable option but with say 10 ladies committing to this I feel it could work.
Excuse my Friday ramblings - need some coffee!!!

My suggestion is to have group stages dependent on entries either one or two groups played twice a month at a time and date that suits the players who can contact each other. 8 Frames per match, played once or twice a month which leads to final day round robin the player that finishes bottom of group/s does not qualify for finals day, its a complete re-form and we would be flexible as we were with XSP for 1st season to allow players to arrange around other commitments. Please note thats only a suggestion of what I would like to try out.

I would just like to say that the SPA Ladies are having a hard time of it just now, fewer and fewer ladies are playing pool, why I do not know as Yvonne runs a tour but in the last few years the numbers have been going down. If any of the Aberdeen Ladies are interested , the SPA Scottish Ladies finals are being held on the weekend of 20/21st of October at the Erskine Bridge Hotel along side the Open event. Unlike the open event where players must qualify from their area to play, the ladies will just be able to turn up that weekend. The entry fee is ?10 and Yvonne thinks that around 40/50 will attend as we do get a lot of our old players coming up from England and Wales to play in this event. The prize fund which is guaranteed by the SPA is ?1000, with ?400 to the winner ?200 runner up ?100 semis and ?50 for the quarters, with trophies for the winner and runner up. There may be a cut off date for putting your name in, I would have to ask Yvonne about that and get back to you. [ This message was edited by: Theflyingscotsman on 2012-07-13 11:50 ]

Yeah will be run similar to XSP with a finals day at end. Will see how many entries from usual forms that team captains hand in and then look at Team Signing Sheets to see if anymore who have not entered but might fancy it once all details are sent through to the captains. Looking to get it underway in November, so 4th Oct deadline likely extended for this event only. Will know more once I see Team signing sheets/entry forms. ----------------- Charity Fundraiser, Cystic Fibrosis Trust, Marie Curie Cancer Care, SSPCA Summer League Tournament Organiser

You will prob have to contact team captains, individual players from signing sheets then look to wider public through Shooters and Rileys and perhaps press article. Still think there must be a market for setting something up if darts can get 400 ladies playing on tuesday - same venues same pubsport sort of thing.

Hi everyone, I would be interested in any Ladies Pool Events, I currently play Blackball rules so would need a few practices for World rules. I think the suggestion of a ladies night, to meet up, have a drink and play pool is a good one. If it was well advertised it would hopefully attract new blood. Donna
