Further BUSA Recognition for Pool
Posted on Monday, May 29 2006 @ 16:31:52 BSTby adpladmin
National Pool News UPC_Chair writes Next season will see the Universities Pool Council Home Nations join the Eight-ball Pool Championship as a BUSA recognised event.

Last season Pool at university level took a huge step forward when BUSA recognised the Universities Pool Council (UPC) Eight-ball Pool Championship. Next season this recognition will be broadened to include the Home Nations following the UPC’s successful submission to BUSA’s National Committee...

The UPC has organised a Home Nations Championship in past seasons with the intention of achieving BUSA recognition for the event. The UPC has organised a Home Nations Championship in past seasons with the intention of achieving BUSA recognition for the event having already attained official recognition from the English Pool Association (EPA) – the Sport England recognised governing body. This was fundamental in realising BUSA recognition for the Eight-ball Pool Championship last season, and has now led to the momentous decision to also welcome the Home Nations Championship into the BUSA family

UPC Executive Chair Iorwerth Griffiths commented that “as a student focussed organisation we are delighted to achieve BUSA status for the Home Nations. This will benefit student pool players in two main ways. Firstly, it gives them the possibility of accessing funding for representing their country of study. Secondly, by playing at what will now be a BUSA event, they will gain greater recognition for their achievements. Pool at university level continues to progress and following this decision Pool is now firmly part of the BUSA family of sports”.

The UPC is also pleased to announce a change to its selection policy for the Home Nations following consultation with teams. Previously players were selected based on their performances at the British Universities Championships. From next season trials will be held to select the sides.

BUSA recognition for representative Pool at university level is a further step forward for the sport and the UPC hopes that all teams will be able to attend next season’s UPC-BUSA Home Nations
